Steve Cannata makes set with beach seine by walking in a circle upstream at Station 2 in June 1995, while Craig Bell waits to help draw in the net. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins.
Craig Bell drags boat and gear to sampling station G3 (Piling Hole), which is just downstream where the snag protrudes from the water. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. July 1995.
Looking downstream in the Garcia River estuary with the location for sampling site G4 at far right in the photo, off the mouth of the largest slough arm. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. August 1995.
Sampling station G5 in the Garcia River estuary was located where the river meets the beach and makes a right angle turn to the south. At the bluffs, the estuary empties into the Pacific Ocean with the Garcia maintaining an open bar. This is unlike many coastal estuaries which close to the ocean and become lagoons. Note surf at right. Station 6 is at the far end of the sand spit where the Garcia enters the ocean. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. June 1995.
Sampling station G6 is visible in the distance just short of the surf line and is where the Garcia River estuary empties into the Pacific Ocean. The Garcia is one of the few Mendocino coastal rivers that maintains an open bar. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. July 1995.
Garcia estuary side arm that formed bay type estuarine habitat is in the lower center of this photograph (Station G7). Salinity was high at this location even in June when river flows were high and Marine fish species were present through the sampling period. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. August 1995.
This photo shows a slough side arm of the Garcia estuary, which was only sampled in August. Photo courtesy of Pat Higgins. August 1995.
