Caption:  This chart shows the total catch at all stations for seining samples collected by Higgins (1995) in the Garcia River estuary in June 1995. Steelhead dominated the June sample from the Bend Hole (G1) to just upstream of the mouth (G5). This is as a result of continuing high runoff in the Garcia, which prevents salt water from intruding far upstream. Only the isolated station east of the mouth of the Garcia (G7) was dominated by marine species. See InfoLinks for more information on sampling methods. Species contractions are stklbk = stickleback, prkly scpn = prickly sculpin, stag scpn = staghorn sculpin, shinr prch = shiner perch, stary fldr = starry flounder, baypipefh = bay pipefish.
