Sponsors and Cooperators for KRIS Battle Creek
Battle Creek Watershed Conservancy
The Battle Creek Watershed Conservancy was formed to make sure that local land owners and stakeholders have a dialog with agencies and decision makers so that resource management is conducted in a way that is most compatible with their interests. This is the second KRIS project funded through and managed by the Battle Creek Watershed Conservancy, which has encourages the assimilation and sharing of information needed for watershed management and for community education.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
The USFWS operates the Central Valley Anadromous Fisheries Resotration Program through which it funded both the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment and KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0. The Red Bluff Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has provided data on water quality and fisheries of Battle Creek and reports on findings as well. The Red Bluff staff assists with data management for the Coleman National Fish Hatchery and provided hatchery data for use in KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0.
Terraqua Inc.
Terraqua Inc. was the primary contractor with the Battle Creek Watershed Conservancy for the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment. The KRIS team worked closely with Terraqua to provide upland condition assessment and to support analysis. Terraqua provided spatial and non-spatial data, photos and reports so that they could be included in KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0.
California Department of Fish and Game
The California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) provided a wealth of information for KRIS Battle Creek and also participated in the peer review process. Water temperature data, photos and regional literature of import were all made available for both Version 1.0 and 2.0 by the staff at Region 1 Headquarters in Redding. Chinook salmon return data for the Central Valley was provided by the Red Bluff office of CDFG in the form of the "Grand Tab", which is updated annually. CDFG also is a participant in the review of KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0.
Lassen National Forest
The Lassen National Forest shared information with the KRIS project and Terraqua, Inc. for the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment. Data included sediment in streams, GIS and water quality data. Useful reports were supplied from regional streams and from USFS holdings within Battle Creek. USFS staff also are participants in reviewing KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0.
USFS Spatial Analysis Lab, Sacramento, CA
The USFS Spatial Analysis Lab in Sacramento provided forest stand and vegetation coverages as well as change scene detection, which contrasts Landsat data from different years. Reports associated with these projects can be found in the KRIS Bibliography. The USFS works cooperatively with CDF FRAP on most California vegetation remote sensing projects.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
The California Department of Forestry (CDF) Fire and Resource Assessment Program (FRAP) works cooperatively with the USFS Spatial Analysis Lab to produced change scene detection for different regions of California. Change scene data for northeastern California and Battle Creek are available for the years 1991-1996 and 1994-1999.
Shasta College
Shasta College hosted a KRIS training for Battle Creek school teachers in its GIS lab. Geography Professor Dan Scollon helped orient teachers to GIS and Dr. Morgan Hanniford instructed teachers collect aquatic data in Battle Creek as part of a field training also attended by advanced students from Shasta College. Discussions were also held with respect to whether Shasta College might play a role in keeping KRIS Battle Creek updated or otherwise provide technical assistance and support for the BCWC.
Western Shasta Resource Conservation District
The KRIS team has been in close touch with the Western Shasta RCD, which is a regional leader in sharing reource information for the northern Sacramento Valley. Discussions have been held as to whether the RCD might serve some role in maintaining the KRIS database in the future.
Tehama County Resource Conservation District
The Tehama County RCD has been working with local landowners, agencies, and students to ensure the sustainable use of soil, water, air, and vegetation for over 20 years. The Tehama RCD has interest in KRIS projects because it manages so many projects that it is considering the use of KRIS for watershed information management in other sub-basins.
Sierra Pacific Industries
The corporate philosophy of SPI is "maintaining healthy forests and providing wood products for consumers. The company provided electronic road data to Terraqua Inc. and access to study locations as part of the Battle Creek Watershed Assessment. SPI scientists reviewed the Battle Creek WA and also KRIS Battle Creek V 2.0.There is no expressed or implied endorsement of the KRIS Battle Creek Version 2.0 project by Sierra Pacific Industries.
American Fisheries Society
The American Fisheries Society (AFS) allowed inclusion of some of its journal articles in the CD version of the KRIS Garcia Bibliography. AFS has posted recent journals on the internet, and the entire contents of these journals are available with a subscription. Article abstracts may be viewed at no cost. All AFS journal articles in KRIS are still fully covered by copyright and may not be re-used without written permission from AFS.
