Temperature: Floating Weekly Max - Sheepscot/Finn Brook 2001 |
|
Caption: This chart shows 2001 floating weekly maximum temperatures in the Mainstem Sheepscot River and in Finn Brook. The Sheepscot River temperature monitoring site at river kilometer (RKm) 28.65 is located upstream of Finn Brook while monitoring site RKm 26.53 is located downstream of the confluence. Cooler water temperatures of Finn Brook could have a cooling effect on the Mainstem Sheepscot as shown in this chart. Temperatures in the Sheepscot River downstream of Finn Brook are slightly colder than the upstream temperatures. Further downstream in the Sheepscot at RKm 10.35, temperatures are greater than areas further upstream in the watershed. Floating weekly maximum temperatures in the Mainstem Sheepscot exceed 22.5°C for extended periods during June through August; Finn Brook infrequently exceed 22.5°C but is typically above 19°C between June and August. Elliott (1991) found that juvenile Atlantic Salmon stop feeding when temperatures exceed 22.5°C while suggesting an upper limit optimum level for feeding of 19°C. Temperature data are from the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission. See Info Links for more background information.
