KRIS Sheepscot: Meta Information Page
This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.
Meta Identifier | NOAA_DSMT |
Type of Data | downstream migrant trapping |
Originator | NOAA-Fisheries - Maine Field Station |
Description | The NOAA Fisheries operates rotary screw traps to capture downstream migrant Atlantic salmon smolts each spring on the Sheepscot River just below Head Tide dam in Alna. One trap was operated in 2001, and two were operated in 2002. The dam passes water through two chutes, so when only one trap is operating, only half the flow of the river is flowing by the trap. Trap operators attempted to catch the largest number of smolts possible while minimizing the number of shad captured. This was done by adjusting the traps' positioning when large numbers of shad were caught. |

Request Log | More detailed data were requested in August 2004, NOAA replied that the raw data will not be available until after four years of data collection, at which time a report will also be written. |

Maint. and Update Freq. | on-going, annual |
Data Quality Information | Only one trap was operated in 2001, which was inadequate to trap the river's full flow. |
Use Constraints | Mark-recapture techniques were not employed, so population size estimates cannot be made. |
