Caption:  The Chart Table "land_use_sheepcounties_census_87_99_chart.db" was derived from the Source Table "land_use_sheepcounties_census_87_99_source.db." It contains data on the changes in agricultural land use in Kennebec, Lincoln, and Waldo counties during the period 1987-1997. These three counties comprise most of the Sheepscot watershed. Note that the data are for the entire extent of the counties, not just the pieces that are in the Sheepscot watershed. Data were collected by the U.S. Census of Agriculture. See Info Links for more information. Columns begin with data type, followed by year. A key to column headings: Farmland_ac = Total acres of farmland (farmland is any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year); Cropland_ac = Total acres of cropland (includes everything in Harv_cropland_ac, plus cropland used only for pasture or grazing, land in cover crops, legumes, and soil-improvement grasses, land on which all crops failed, land in cultivated summer fallow, and idle cropland); Harv_cropland_ac = Total acres of harvested cropland (includes land from which crops were harvested or hay was cut, and land in orchards, citrus groves, Christmas trees, vineyards, nurseries, and greenhouses); Irrigated_ac = Total acres of irrigated cropland (includes all land watered by any artificial or controlled means, such as sprinklers, flooding, furrows or ditches, and spreader dikes).
