Fish: Alewife Catch in Sheepscot River Watershed 1967-2004 |
|
Caption: This chart shows the number of pounds of alewives caught in the Sheepscot watershed in the years 1967-2004. In 1980, the Coopers Mills Dam was modified to exclude alewives, to protect the brook trout and brown trout at the Palermo fish hatchery from marine parasites. As a result, alewife numbers have declined substantially. See Picture or Info Links for more information about alewives and their life cycle. Data were contributed by the Department of Marine Resources.
