WQ: Dissolved Aluminum MDEP Baseflow Sites 1999-2001 |
|
Caption: This chart shows the minimum, mean, and maximum Dissolved Aluminum (Al) levels measured during the Maine Department of Environmental Protection WQM Program's 1999-2001 baseflow study. Data were collected in June-October. Aluminum levels were generally high in the Sheepscot basin (13.9 - 132 ug/L) with highest levels occurring in Trout Brook (29.5 - 132 ug/L). Kroglund and Staurnes (1999) concluded that Atlantic salmon smolts are impaired by exposure to water with pH < 6.2-6.3 and inorganic aluminum concentration as low as 15-20 µg/L.
