Sediment: D50 Values for North Fork Gualala Basin |
|
Caption: The Chart above shows the median particle size distribution (D50) of the streambed at several locations in the North Fork Gualala River basin between 1997 and 2001. Abbreviations of locations are NF = mainstem North Fork, LNF = Little North Fork, RBC = Robinson Creek and DRY = Dry Creek. This chart shows a D50 range in light blue which overlaps with the Knopp (1993) 95% confidence interval for median particle size of control streams or those that had at least 40 years rest from logging. Most values in the North Fork, Little North Fork and Robinson Creek fall outside the range of D50 expected for a control stream or one that has recovered from past damage. Small median particle size can contribute to bedload mobility, which decreases salmonid spawning success. Data provided by Gualala Redwoods Inc. as part of timber harvest plans.
