Sediment: D50 from Knopp for Sites in or near Gualala 1992 |
|
Caption: The Chart above shows the median particle size distribution (D50) for a number of locations in northern California as reported by Knopp (1993). This chart shows a D50 reference of 37 mm from the Garcia TMDL, which applies as a target for third order streams. Fuller Creek's larger particle size distribution (42 mm) was over the TMDL target and results suggest that it is in more advanced recovery than Grasshopper Creek, which was at the threshold. Larger streams, such as the South Fork Ten Mile and North Fork Garcia rivers, would naturally have larger median particles because of greater stream power. Gradient and channel confinement may also affect median particle size. See Info Links for more information.
