This photo shows the same reach as Picture #1, but looking west down the North Fork where it joins the Garcia River flowing down from the left. The North Fork makes a right angle turn then takes another hard bend just before converging with the mainstem. Photo provided by Peter Dobbins and Friends of the Garcia River.

The North Fork enters the Garcia River at left, with the Buckridge Bar gravel operation downstream on the left. Mining had been minimal or inactive for several years when this photo was taken in 2000, which had allowed the Garcia River channel to regain definition as willow and alder recruit on the undisturbed bar. Photo provided by Peter Dobbins and Friends of the Garcia River.

Looking upstream at the convergence of the North Fork and mainstem (top center of photo). Note that the low flow channel now flows between alder and willow lined banks, but that high flows occupy the wider flood plain. Photo provided by Peter Dobbins and Friends of the Garcia River. Winter 2000.

The alder and willow thicket along lower Buckridge bar provides improving shade and cover for juvenile steelhead rearing in summer.
