Temperature: FWA Main Garcia River at Buckridge Bar 1997-2000 |
|
Caption: The above chart plots floating weekly average temperature of the Garcia River at Buckridge Bar for the years 1997-2000. This mainstem location is included in the North Fork sub-basin because of the Calwater boundary that includes the main Garcia below the North Fork. Floating weekly average temperatures exceeded 16.8 degrees Celsius in 1997, 1998 and 1999, but the year 2000 was under the coho stress reference. The gravel bar was much more open here before and subject to warming, but with the cessation of gravel mining the stream is developing full canopy which may be helping what appears to be a cooling trend. This river reach had rearing coho salmon juveniles in August 1952 (CDFG, 1953). Welsh et al. (2001) found that coho are not likely to persist where maximum floating weekly average temperature (MWAT) exceeds 16.8°C. See InfoLinks for more information.
