The January 1, 1997 storm washed away quite a bit of soil and further buried or uncovered the willow baffles, which can still be seen as rows sticking out of the gravel. Despite this set back, the willows sprouted and by 2003 (see Picture #6) the willows provided full bank protection even after taking a major flood hit. The tree line in the distance allows this April 2003 photo to be compared with Pictures #1 and #6 from previous time periods. It shows that there is now willow bank cover preventing further erosion and that the baffles worked as intended to catch sediment and deflect flows away from the eroding bank on the Hooper property.
