Aquatic Inverts: Ten Most Abundant Species Above ATT Spill |
|
Caption: This chart shows the ten most abundant taxa of aquatic insects collected using a kick net on the lower Garcia River above the ATT drilling mud spill. The health of the aquatic system can be judged by the relative abundance of insect species. The above spill sample shows several species approaching the abundance of the dominant species using a concept known as "evenness". Compare this sample to the one taken below the spill site in the next Topic (Aquatic Inverts: Ten Most Abundant Species Below ATT Spill). Data collected by John Lee on behalf of Friends of the Garcia River.
